Winterfest 2009
Winterfest 2009 occurred on March 21, with the usual two concerts at 4:00 pm
and 6:30 pm.
The main Winterfest recordings (DVDs) are now produced by Tri
Angel Media. Contact them if you are interested in recordings of Winterfest
from 2003 or later. The link for ordering recordings from Winterfest 2009 is here.
Note, however, that I am considering producing a CD from the "live"
recording I do. If that sounds interesting to you, drop me a note. If there is
enough interest, I will try to get one made.
Tech Tidbits
Since I am in charge of the live sound, I thought I'd provide a few tidbits
of what it takes to put on Winterfest from an audio perspective:
 | The
equipment is mostly rented: Most of the live audio equipment is rented
from GJM Sound in Placerville not too far from where I live. The rest of the
equipment is a combination of stuff the Mountain View Church and I own. It
all travels down in a rented trailer pulled by my truck. (At right is a
photo of it on Sunday after all the equipment had been packed up after the
concert.) |
 | 86 hours in 1+ week: By my best estimate, I put in 86 hours of time
on Winterfest. This started this year on Friday 3/13 when I picked up the
rented equipment in Placerville. Between loading the rest of the equipment,
taking it to Mountain View, unloading it, setting it up, running through two
dress rehearsals and two concerts, taking it down, packing it up in Mountain
View, driving it back to Placerville, unloading, and finally returning the
equipment on Tuesday 3/24, I added up about 86 hours of my time. This doesn't include the time of the many people
who help me including my parents, Dick Anderson, Rich Parker, and GJM's setup crew. |
 | Gee Whiz Statistics:
 | 37 audio mics used
 | 15 instrument mics |
 | 16 vocal mics |
 | 6 recording mics |
|
 | The 40 channel mixer that I operate for the concert has:
 | 902 knobs |
 | 858 buttons |
 | 61 sliders |
 | (and I even know what most of those controls do :-)
 |
|
 | Between all the audio snakes & mic cords we put down for
Winterfest, we lay down nearly half a mile worth of cables containing
over 8 miles worth of wire. |

Photos
We were fortunate enough to have two photographers this year. Brian Blum was
kind enough to use my cameras and take photos, which you will find here. (Being
asked to photograph with someone else's camera equipment is a bit like being
asked to cook a gourmet meal in someone else's kitchen: even if you know what
you're doing, it's still hard to do in a strange environment. So thanks Brian.)
Brian shot dominantly from the back, which gives a perspective very much the way
I or much of the audience see the program.
In addition, Adam Innocent (son of Winterfest flutist Cindy Innocent) brought
his camera and took photos as well. He shot mostly from the front, and his
photos have a rather intimate feel to them. I think you'll like his stuff, which
you can find on his web site here:

Adam provided me with a zip file of his photos, so if you want
to download all his photos at once, you can find those below below.
Web-Size Photos
These photos are 900x600 pixels, and about 80-100 kB each. Click the links
below to go to thumbnail indexes of these photos.
If you would rather just download some zip files containing all
the photos, you can get those here:
1.7MP Large photos
These are the same photos as above, but are larger in size at 1600x1085 pixels,
and have lower compression (higher quality). Click the links below to go to thumbnail indexes of these
photos.
If you would rather just download some zip files containing all
the photos, you can get those here:
2.5MP Very Little Compression
Adam provided me with 2.5 MP files with a very low compression
(high quality). So if you really like his photos and don't mind a big file, here
you go:
